Q: When does the library open?
A: Library hours are as follows for each branch locations.
Artesia - Tuesday & Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., closed for lunch from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Caledonia - Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., closed for lunch from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Columbus-Lowndes - Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.; Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Crawford - Monday & Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., closed for lunch from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Q: How do I get a library card? How much does it cost?
A: Getting a library card is free, easy, and quick! Library card applications can be found online - Adult Library Card & Under 18 Library Card. Once you fill out the form just return it to the first floor circulation desk with a picture ID and proof of residence. You will receive your card on the spot with the proper paperwork. If you lose your library card, it is just $2.00 for a replacement. If your card has been stolen, please report it to your local library as soon as possible.
Q: Can I search the library's catalog from the World Wide Web?
A: Yes you may. Click on this link - CLPL Catalog - to search our catalog.
Q: What is the username and password used to sign-in to my account?
A: The username is your library card number and the password is your own personal pin (the last 4-digits of your card number, or a personal pin you created). If you have trouble logging in please give us a call at 662.329.5300.
Q: How long can I keep the items I have checked out?
A: Loan periods vary depending on the type of item that is checked out. Below are a few of the common items that are checked out and their loan period.
Most books & audio books are checked out for twenty-eight (28) days. These items are allowed two (2) renewals, unless another library patron has placed a hold on the item.
Popular books will be checked out for seven (7) days, based on the number of holds for the item.
DVDs, American Girl Dolls, Boy Story Dolls, Brain Boxes, ARC Therapy Tools, and Leap Frogs are checked out for seven (7) days. Renewals are not allowed on any of these items.
Downloadable eBooks & eAudiobooks will be checked out to your personal device for seven (7), fourteen (14), or twenty-one (21) days depending on pre-determined checkout periods established by Overdrive, our eBook/eAudiobook platform.
Q: What if I am late returning my items?
A: All items that are able to be checked out have an overdue fine associated with them. These fines vary based on the item type.
Most books and audio books have a fine of 10¢ each day it is late with a maximum late fee of $5.00. If an item is not returned your account will be charged the entire replacement cost of the item plus processing fees.
DVDs have a fine of 25¢ each day it is late with a maximum late fee of $5.00. If an item is not returned your account will be charged the entire replacement costs of the DVD plus processing fees.
American Girl Dolls, Boy Story Dolls, Brain Boxes, ARC Therapy Tools, and Leap Frogs have a fine of $1.00 each day it is late. There is no maximum fine. These items keep accruing fines until they are returned. If an item is not returned your account will be charged the entire replacement cost of the item plus processing fees. These specific items range in price from $50.00 to $200.00.
DVDs, Audio books, American Girl Dolls, Boy Story Dolls, Brain Boxes, ARC Therapy Tools, and Leap Frogs cannot be returned in the book drop. If one of these items is returned in the book drop a $2.00 fine per item will added to your account.
Damage to items could also result in a fee added to your account. Below are the costs for some specific items damaged.
Damaged or missing bar code: $2.00
Damaged Audio book Cases: $10.00
Damaged Media Cases (DVDs): $2.00
Damaged Discs: $10.00 per disc
Damaged booklets or printed materials accompanying a CDs or DVDs: $1.00
Q: How much does it cost to use the computers and WiFi?
A: The library provides these services for free. You will need a library card in good standing to use our public computers. The WiFi is always available.
Q: What do I have to do to use a computer?
A: The library uses a self-service system. If a computer says AVAILABLE, you can log in using your library card or guest pass. Guest passes are located at the circulation desk for non-residents of Columbus.
Q: What does it mean if the computer has reserved on it?
A: This means that another patron has put a RESERVATION on it. Only that patron can log on to it.
Q: How much is it to print and where do I pick it up?
A: The cost for each print is 25 cents for black/white and color is 50 cents. The prints can be picked up at the Print Release/Reservation Station located on the first floor by the stair case. ALL money is paid at the vending machine. The vending machine accepts $1 bills, $5 bills, quarters, dimes, and nickels. Please do not insert any bills over $5 or any pennies.
Q: Can I print something from my personal device?
A: Yes, you can! The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library is happy to have mobile printing available. Please click the following link for more information.
Q: How much is it to fax and receive pages?
A: It costs $1.50 to fax the first page and $1.00 for each additional page. It is 25 cents to receive a fax. The fax number is 662.329.5156.
Q: Does the library have programs for children?
A: The Library has a variety of programming available for children!
