COVID-19 Safety + Procedures
For the safety of our patrons, staff, and community members, the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System has enacted a variety of procedures during the novel COVID-19 pandemic. The library system and branches have re-opened as of July 2020 to fully operational hours, but have placed limits on certain services and are following all current guidelines to promote social distancing. Listed below are actions the library system has taken to mitigate the spread of germs to create a safe space for further library services.
  • All library locations require masks to be worn at all times while inside CLPLS buildings and social distancing is encouraged.

  • The Columbus-Lowndes library branch's back door is currently closed to control traffic patterns and the number of persons within the building.

  • Full contactless curbside services still available upon request.

  • Protective screens have been placed at circulation desks to protect staff and library patrons alike.

  • Library computer stations are limited to 45-minute sessions, with disinfection occurring between patron usage. Keyboards and mice are replaced with each use as well.

  • Study spaces are provided for students enrolled in virtual schooling.

  • Public restrooms are open for use and disinfected on a rotating schedule.

  • The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System's Buckley Genealogy Room and the Billups-Garth Archives (Local History department) is open by appointment only until further notice.

  • Additional disinfection stations have been added to the Columbus-Lowndes Library System branches.

  • Temporary library cards are still available via our Library Card Application page for those looking to access digital resources.

  • All circulating items are placed in quarantine for three days to ensure the safety of patrons and staff. This includes items coming from other libraries as well as returned items. Due to this process, returned items are not checked back in until the quarantine is lifted. Items are back-dated to ensure no fines accrue, but may still appear on patron accounts until taken out of quarantine. Items coming from other libraries are also not processed until three days after arrival.

  • High-touch items, such as activity kits, games, puzzles, etc. have been temporarily suspended from circulation to decrease the spread of germs and virus carriers.

  • In-person library programs have been suspended until further notice to prevent virus spread.

  • Virtual programming is now offered via the library's Facebook page and other platforms. Check our library calendar for information on upcoming events.

  • Take-and-make Crafternoon-to-Go kits are provided for children, teens, and adults at the Columbus-Lowndes library branch. These are free prepared kits with instructions for patrons to take home with them.

  • In addition to our physical location services, the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library has added a variety of resources to our Digital Library for our patrons and community members to access at any time from the comfort of their own homes.
